From January 17th to the 26th, Nina and I went to Hawaii and had a great time. It was only hard coming back to work. We landed in Honolulu and spent two nights there. We weren't wild about it, a big city which paled in comparison to the rest of the trip. We did get a bike ride in, riding across the cito to see the USS Arizona and Pearl Harbor. Actually, this wasn't the original plan. We were expecting to take a bus across the city. But every bus that came by was completely full. Fortunately, there was a bike rental place just down the block. We did take the bus back, putting our bikes on the front carrier. That afternoon I went to Waikiki and went snorkelling while Nina got a massage.
From Honolulu, we flew to Kona on the Island of Hawaii. There we
stayed at the Royal Kona resort. A step up from Honolulu, but still
not great. The first morning paint fumes started to asphyxiate us. We
moved rooms, but this caused enough confusion that that night someone walked
into our room at 10:30, before disappearing without explanation. 10 minutes
later they called us, waking us from half-sleep.
